Bristol Who’s Who Recognizes Kewal Shienmar


 
Kewal Shienmar is the co-founder and Managing Director of Mapcode Foundation, a nonprofit organization responsible for location coding. Kewal has expertise in international business development, expanding businesses and production into new markets and co-founded the Mapcode Foundation over 3 years ago together with the co-founder of TomTom. Mapcode is a code consisting of two groups of letters and digits separated by a dot. This represents a location on the earth’s surface, which is noted in about four to seven characters in length.
 
The non-profit was established in The Netherlands, which holds all the patents, rights, brands, designs, properties, collateral, algorithms, data tables and IP related to mapcodes. The purpose of the Mapcode Foundation is to foster mapcodes as a free Open Source standard of public location encoding, to provide support, distribute and stimulate the use of mapcodes as widely as possible.
 
Kewal looks forward to having Mapcode adopted worldwide and is most proud of his involvement with its evolution as a world standard and the pace of adoption throughout the world. In particular, he is in awe of how mapcodes are being embraced on the African continent.
 
He is also proud to be credited for a patent for “Navigation Method and Apparatus for Selecting a Destination” which is currently in use in Landmark Navigation for which he was responsible for introducing into car navigation products. He has held a keen interest in business development throughout his career and credits his honesty, straight forwardness and hard-work ethics as having been keys to his success.
 
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering from the Royal Air Force Technical Training College and is a supporter of the Cancer Society. In his spare time, he enjoys history and cycling near his home in Heemskerk, Netherlands.
