Rowly Brown is Principal and Health and Safety Specialist at Rowly Brown & Associates. He serves as an independent health & safety advisor to all industries, and is also a specialist in machine guarding assessment and advice.
 
From a farming, financial services, and business management background, Mr Brown attended Massey University where he graduated with a Post Graduate Diploma in Safety Management. He also holds certificates in industrial ventilation, environmental monitoring, noise monitoring, ergonomics, industrial relations, commercial law, and hazardous substance management.
 
From 1982 – 1996 he served as Senior & Advisory Health & Safety Inspector in the New Zealand Department of Labour Occupational Safety and Health Service (OSH), including Project work as a Business Analyst preparing OSH’s Operational Policies, Procedures, & Inspectorate Training modules. He has been an Independent Health & Safety Specialist / Advisor since 1996. He has audited, inspected, and investigated accidents and incidents in every major industry sector including farming, construction, mining, engineering, manufacturing, transport, food processing, central and local government, healthcare, hospitality, tourism, education. Mr Brown has often delivered education and training on Workplace Safety & Health at the regional and national levels for SIT, CPD Training Ltd, Enterprise NZ, Venture Southland, NZIM, NZMEA, and Site Safe, as well as for individual corporate clients.
 
As an expert developer of health and safety management systems and procedures for all applications, Mr Brown is the perfect person to look to for health and safety training. He is also an Exemplar Global auditor, assessor, and hazardous substances advisor.
 
Also a talented writer and researcher, Mr Brown is the author of OSH’s World-first research paper on ATV hazards in 1992, and was also a contributor to New Zealand’s first textbook on Health & Safety in New Zealand Workplaces (C Slappendel, Ed. Dunmore Press, 1995).
 
Mr Brown’s research material has been used in New Zealand’s health & safety assistance program to the Republic of China through Massey University. He is a frequent contributor to national health and safety magazines and publications. He is currently a member of New Zealand Institute of Safety Management, and the New Zealand Institute of Hazardous Substance Management.
 
Mr Brown is a vastly experienced Health and Safety professional who is highly regarded for his practical skills, extensive knowledge, common-sense approach, and his ability to relate to people at all levels. He attributes his success to discretion, integrity, empathy and people skills, and hard work.

To have fun and relax Mr Brown is an avid tennis player and has represented his country at Seniors level. He is also an ‘occasional’ golfer, and relishes social time with family. He lives in Christchurch, New Zealand.
