Bristol Who’s Who Recognizes Scott Ramsay

Scott Ramsay is the Underground Area Manager for Energy Resources of Australia (ERA), part of the larger Rio Tinto group of companies, Australia’s longest continually operating uranium mine and one of the country’s largest uranium producers. Also operating in the aluminum, copper and coal, diamonds and other minerals, iron ore, and mining exploration and technology sectors, Rio Tinto provides full service access to the latest innovation and broad reach to resources. With over 20 years of experience in underground mining, Scott is accountable for all underground mining and the wellbeing of over 60 staff members. He oversees designs, planning, execution, budgets, and integration across all underground operations, and ensures that company members receive proper training and education on each task and work site.
 
After completing a Bachelor of Science in Geology from the University of Queensland in 1995, Scott became an Underground Mine Geologist for, Amalg Resources NL at their Eloise Copper Mine in NW Queensland. He has also served in senior roles for Stirlite Industries’ Copper Mines of Tasmania (CMT) and Highway Reward, and for Rio Tinto at various sites across Australia, Mongolia and Utah, USA. Prior to joining ERA, Scott was the Manager of Underground Maintenance and Manager Mass Excavation and Vertical Development for Oyu Tolgoi LLC in Mongolia.
 
Known for his strong team leadership skills, Scott handpicks his teams to include workers who demonstrate enthusiasm, drive, motivation and a positive attitude. His work in Mongolia brought a new mine and mining education, both up to western standards, to a country in which underground mining is a relatively new industry. Scott enjoys working with people, building, developing and mentoring new teams to achieve high performance results.
 
Today Scott resides in Townsville, North Queensland, and works in Jabiru, Northern Territory, Australia. He is a member of the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, and has published articles related to the industry in Mining Journal and Ausimm Bulletin. In his spare time, he enjoys soccer, cricket, swimming and golf, as well as pursues astronomy, archaeology and the restoration of old cars.
