Bristol Who’s Who Recognizes Susan Wakefield

 

Susan Wakefield was born in England, grew up in Canada, moved to California for six years, and then moved back to Ontario to open her current business, S Wakefield Artworks, about 9 years ago. Susan specializes in jewelry, sculpture, and painting, and works primarily in metals. In 1976, Susan attended Kent State University and received a B.F.A. cum laude in Crafts with a major in Enameling and a minor in Metals. Following her graduation Susan attended a Metal and Jewelry Arts Course at Sheridan College in 1980 and then various art history classes at Stanford University from 1999-2002.

Since returning to Canada, Susan has gone back to her roots and back to painting a lot more, as she did when she received her first degree, in 1971, as a Painting Major from the Montreal Museum School of Fine Arts. Susan now focuses on expanding her jewelry business but also does some small metal sculpture and occasionally teaches jewelry making and basic stone cutting. Susan is looking to re-establish herself in Ontario, and spends a lot of time attending industry conferences and marketing her work in jewelry, sculpture, and painting.

Susan is a member of various industry associations, such as the Society of North American Goldsmiths, known as SNAG, MAG, the Metal Arts Guild of Canada, and the Association for Contemporary Jewelry. She has also been featured in MiddleSmith Magazine & Ornaments Magazine.

Susan is greatly inspired by nature, travel and her own experiences. Her paintings usually depict people and animals and sometimes include a touch of the surreal.

“The colours of life and living things, movement and how to interpret it, and, like most artists the light and how it affects what I see has great influence in how I work. This crosses through my drawings and paintings, my sculpture, and my jewellery. My purpose is to try and make my observers see how I see, and hopefully add something to their lives too.”
